Our Approach

Halocell specialises in harvesting light in environments where traditional photovoltaic technologies fall short. This includes indoor spaces, shady areas, curved surfaces, and throughout the day from dawn to dusk.

We achieve this by printing perovskite solar cells using an advanced roll-to-roll manufacturing process, allowing for unmatched scalability and efficiency in previously untapped lighting conditions.

Our Roadmap

Horizon 1: Powering Small Electronics and IoT devices

The Founding of Halocell: Based on decades of experience in Silicon PV alternatives

When Paul Moonie, Co-Founder and CEO of Halocell, and his team started out, they faced a significant challenge: competing with silicon-based photovoltaics (PVs) in a highly competitive market, particularly in outdoor applications using glasspanels. Halocell’s approach is both simple and bold: to commercialise perovskite solar cells (PSCs) in industries where their unique advantages truly shine, and where traditional PV solutions are less effective. These include small electronics and IoT applications for the indoor market. By focusing on these areas, Halocell aims to drive adoption of this cutting-edge technology, ultimately bringing it into the mainstream.

Horizon 2: Powering Niche Markets

The Future of Halocell: Innovating Tomorrow’s Energy Supply

A dedicated team of scientists and engineers, based in the Riverina Region of NSW has spent the last five years turning a bold vision into reality. Beginning with the fabrication of glass-based single cells, they quickly advanced to scalable printing technologies on flexible substrates. Today, Halocell is successfully producing photovoltaics for indoor use on a small scale.

The next phase of growth involves securing investment to launch a large-scale roll-to-roll production line, enabling Halocell to scale up operations and meet the growing demand for this groundbreaking technology. Beyond their core products, Halocell also collaborates closely with industry partners, providing highly efficient, lightweight, and flexible solar modules tailored to niche light intensities. This collaborative approach ensures that their solutions are finely tuned to meet the unique needs of various sectors.‍

Horizon 3: Powering Industrial Assets

The Future of Halocell: Innovating Tomorrow’s Energy Supply

Under the leadership of Paul Moonie, the Halocell team is committed to scaling this groundbreaking technology and making it accessible on an industrial level. As their journey continuous, Halocell is poised to play a fundamental role in shaping the future of energy harvesting.

The company’s final goal is to produce lightweight and flexible thin-film solar cells that can be integrated seamlessly onto various surfaces, expanding the potential for solar energy capture. These low-weight cells are ideal for use on roofs and surfaces that cannot support conventional PV panels, allowing solar power to be harnessed in previously inaccessible locations. Furthermore, Halocell’s innovative approach includes the use of semi-transparent perovskite cells that can be overlaid on existing silicon solar panels, enhancing efficiency without requiring a full system redesign. Looking ahead, Halocell is working towards all-perovskite tandem solar cells, which could significantly improve energy  efficiency and redefine how we harness solar power, paving the way for a brighter energy future.
